Hydro-Pet's FAQ's
Have you got some questions that you need to be answered?
My dog can’t swim
A lot of dogs do not like puddles, the local river or the sea. At Hydro-pet we see dogs that are wary of water and we are able to build your dog’s confidence in the water. We offer puppy swimming lessons to help build overall strength and confidence and also increases mental stimulation giving your pet more confidence in its surroundings.
How long does a session last?
Allow up to 60 mins for your consultation and familiarization of the centre. We do not allow a session in the therapy pool unless we have the consent form from your vet. Hydrotherapy sessions are typically 30 minutes.
Is swimming my dog in the sea the same as hydrotherapy?
We definitely recommend that you don't - at least, not for rehabilitation purposes. Hydrotherapy treatment should take place in warm water. In cold water, the blood flow through some blood vessels will be restricted, making the muscles they supply work less effectively. Cold water also increases the chance of sudden cramp or discomfort. The water in the Hydro-Pet pool is kept at the perfect temperature for your dog, the water is kept clean and sanitized, providing the perfect environment for a controlled fitness program tailored to your dog's needs.
Can I feed my dog before a session?
We recommend that you feed your dog a two hours before the treatment and make sure your dog toilets properly prior to going into the pool.
Can both my dogs swim at the same time?
We do not allow two dogs to swim together as all sessions are on a Hydrotherapist one to one basis. Owners are not allowed into the pool or on the ramp going into the pool for health and safety reasons.
Is the water cold or warm?
The water in the pool is usually heated to 31C which is the ideal range for Canine Hydrotherapy. We also test our water three times a day to maintain water quality standards.
